I almost don't want to post anything about Emme's birth story. . .
it was so chill and relaxed, it is quite embarrassing actually!
Because I had group B strep, I had to be on antibiotics for four hours before I delivered Emme.
Because I had Afton in 4 1/2 hours, I was a little nervous things would not work out right and I would end up with another complicated birth and possibly a NICU baby- I hated that whole experience with Afton and wanted to avoid it at all costs- so I scheduled and induction the week before my due date.
Here's how it went down. . .
September 25, 2012
5:00 am: call the hospital and make sure they still have room for us!
5:30 am: drop Afton off at our amazing friend's house
(thank you SO much Becky&Drew and Megan&Pat for taking care of Afton all day!
We didn't worry about her one bit which was so nice!)
6:00 am: walk into the hospital. calm, collected, and feeling quite great!
We got our room, I got my gown, and we settled in.
The lady in the room next to us was having her first child naturally-
I got quite freaked out as we listened to her push for two hours!
about 7:00 ish: get in my first round of antibiotics before they start Pitocin
10:45 ish: get my epidural (ya- since I was dilated to a four when I went into the hospital, I was allowed an epidural before I even felt a contraction- like I said, kind of embarrassing)
After the epidural, they broke my water and gave me Pitocin.
Then we waited. I never felt anything other than a little bit of pressure.
I got a little bit of a fever (just like I did with Afton) but other than that, I felt just great.
We sat and talked all afternoon.
At about 5:25, my doctor came in and asked if I thought I was ready to push.
I thought, ya sure I guess- who knows!
She told me to try and we would see where I was at.
I pushed once and she immediately told me to stop so they could get ready!
I couldn't believe it was really time!
Four pushes later, @ 5:37 pm, our little bundle of joy was born!
(and that's that- it was so super easy its ridiculous!)
She was HUGE! Weighing in a 9lbs 3 oz. I was quite shocked seeing as how Afton was 6 lbs 12 oz!
The doctor and nurses were all shocked too- seeing as how she came out so easily!
Emme's birth was so different than Afton's! Afton's was so traumatic and high stress that I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time with her in the beginning. With Emme, they handed her to me as soon as she was born and didn't take her out of my arms for a good 1 1/2 hours.
It was so peaceful and such a great blessing.
Don't mind my weird smile- the epidural always makes me smile funny!
There is nothing more special than watching Kenton hold our kids for the first time.
He is such a natural dad- its fun to watch!
She looks like such an Anderson baby here. Those chubby cheeks- SO fun to kiss!
Love this shot! This is such an Emme face- she makes it all the time!
It is always hard to figure out who our kids look like- we have such similar genes that we really just can't tell most of the time.
But, one thing is for certain, Emme has Kenton's long skinny feet- even their long toes are the same!
Afton has been such a champion big sister! Occasionally she asks that Daddy hold baby Emme so that she can cuddle with Mommy.
But, so far (knock on wood) she hasn't been mean to Emme at all- it is so cute to see and makes me so proud of Afton.
I seriously can't believe this is MY family. We are a legit family now- not just a couple with a kid.
I am quite overwhelmed at the idea- I suddenly feel the need to grow up- hopefully I can one of these days!
I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with the blessings that we have been given.
With Afton, I was a first time mom and
I know that I didn't realize how great of a blessing I had just received.
Now, its hard not feel overwhelmed.
We love you so much already Emme.
We are so lucky that you came to join our family
and so blessed that you are healthy and well!
We can't wait to get to know you and your cute personality!

Im so glad to hear that things went so well! She is so beautiful and you guys look so happy! Hopefully I can meet her sometime. Hopefully around the holidays if you are in Idaho?

DeleteCongratulations Brittney, she is so beautiful and that's AMAZING that your labor and delivery was so great! Be proud of that mama! Now you've experienced both ends of the spectrum so you can totally appreciate Emme's birth! :) Your girls are so cute you need to have like 50 of them!
DeleteSounds like a dream delivery! You'll have to tell me how it is to be a legit family since I only recently became a couple with a kid :) SO happy for you guys. Can't wait to see you soon.
ReplyDeleteThere needs to be some easier births so that there is that hope out there:) Such a fun collection of pictures of the whole fabulous event. Congrats, we can't wait to meet her!
